Since 1996, the Lower Eastside Girls Club has supported young women and gender-expansive youth of color throughout New York City in leveraging their inner power to shape a better future for themselves, their community, and the world. Through free, year-round, innovative programming we connect young people with their passions, celebrate their curiosity, and channel their creative energy. In 2022, we expanded our mission and service population with the Center for Wellbeing and Happiness, which provides free, full-spectrum wellness services for all generations and genders on the Lower East Side.
Occupying 40,000 square feet on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, LESGC is a vibrant and vital community asset. The population we serve reflects the diverse demographics of our city. LESGC serves over 2,000 residents of the Lower East Side and wider NYC community annually, reaching 1000+ youth in year round programming and 1000 adult CWBH members.
About the role:
Reporting to The Lower Eastside Girls Club’s Executive Director, the Director of Development is responsible for the implementation of the Girls Club’s fundraising & development strategy and operations. The Director of Development manages a team of four to raise approximately $5 million annually from individual, corporate, foundation and government funders supporting annual program, operating and capital needs as well as oversees all aspects of LESGC’s short and long -term fundraising activities and strategies.
As the Girls Club further develops its individual giving program, the ideal candidate has a track record of success in growing major donor programs and securing 5, 6 and 7-figure gifts. She/he/they must have a comprehensive fundraising background that demonstrates the development and implementation of strategies to foster support from all raised revenue streams.
Responsibilities:
Executive Leadership
- Work collaboratively with the members of leadership team to:
- Create a strategic annual fund development plan to support annual revenue goals
- Ensure the organizational goals and objectives are rooted in LESGC’s core mission, which is to cultivate a) the efficacy and success of young women in NYC and b) community resilience and self-reliance.
- Push the mission of LESGC forward by strengthening core organizational values which promote and sustain organizational transparency, communication and collaboration.
- Work in coordination with staff to shape institutional decisions, initiatives and strategic plans which enable LESGC to remain responsive, imaginative, relevant, and innovative.
- In coordination with the Executive Director, act as primary representative of the Development department with Board of Directors, staff, and organizational stakeholders.
Development Lead
- Managing development team, providing strategic and operational guidance to ensure team members’ effective performance and success
- Ensure supervision, support, professional development and evaluation of development staff
- Engage and manage fundraising consultants, as needed
- Keeping staff appraised of fundraising efforts and successes
Fundraising
- Maintaining oversight over all fundraising activities including major giving, grants, special donor events, direct mail appeals, and corporate partnership initiatives
- Overseeing prospecting; cultivating and sustaining relationships with a wide variety of constituencies, including current and potential donors, foundations, corporations, government sources, and individual donors
- Overseeing fundraising events and activities to recruit sponsors, vendors, supporters and guests
- Manage expense budgets for all fundraising efforts (e.g. the annual gala)
- Partner with communications/marketing team to develop collateral materials for current and prospective donors and sponsors
- Manage a portfolio of donors, building on existing relationships and developing new, and improve donor retention through a meaningful stewardship strategy. Leverage Executive Director, CEO and Board members in these efforts.
Data & Reporting
- Liaising with the finance team to ensure that fundraising is on track; participating in the planning, writing and reviewing grants budgets
- Ensuring timely and accurate report deliveries to funders
- Overseeing donor records/database, stewardship activities, and tracking systems
- Partner with communications/marketing team to develop collateral materials for current and prospective donors and sponsors
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years progressive experience in fundraising and development with a proven track record of securing significant private and public funding and major gifts.
- Demonstrated success in supporting an organizational budget of 4 million +
- Proven track record of securing five – seven-figure gifts
- Experience with various funding sources including government grants
- Excellent communications skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically about relationships with funders and prospects, and to communicate organizational mission in ways that are exciting and enticing to funders
- Extensive knowledge of fundraising best practices and contacts in the philanthropic and donor sectors
- Competence and efficiency in technological usage, preferably Salesforce, Google Suite, Slack
- Understanding and knowledge of data, data metrics, and data capture and how it informs planning and decision-making.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously, to track work details and to respond flexibly to changes

Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 / year, commensurate with experience
