PROGRAM UPDATE
Spring is (almost) here and we are hard at work running a full roster of programs (view our spring program schedule here) and planning for upcoming events. Our college-bound girls are eagerly awaiting their results and, like last year, we expect 100% acceptance for all girls in our College and Career Prep program. Currently, 30 of these girls are employed through this program working PT at the Girls Club as program associates and in our businesses, accessing a variety of academic and professional development resources.
Our teens are also busy rehearsing Eve Ensler’s new play, “I am an Emotional Creature, the Secret Life of Girls Around the World” which is being directed by Rosario Dawson. Join us for a one night benefit performance on April 12th! Info below and online here.
Our younger girls are happily busy in their daily after-school program with tutoring, arts, yoga, flamenco dance, chorus and Book Club. And, of course, now that the weather is nice they can’t stop asking about camp! You can help us get them to camp by participating in the May 15th Walk-a-thon for Girls’ and Women’s Health. See below for details on participating and/or becoming a team captain.
Girls Club businesses are going strong. We recently expanded our partnership with Breezy Hill Orchards—you can now find their farm-fresh produce, pasta, eggs and cider at our La Tiendita booth at the Essex Market (Essex and Delancey). Also, stop by Celebrate Café @ the Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery @ 1st Street, open 11-11) our newest job training program and retail site for Sweet Things goodies (savory quiches and lunch specials too!)
You are welcome to visit or help out on a Saturday when we are open to the public. Visit our events schedule for more info.
Our doors are open- we’d love to see you!
