Girls Club programs keep young women safe and focused on the future.
2) SCHOOLS CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH
Girls Club programs complement and enhance the work of local schools. Our free entrepreneurial, arts, music, science, environmental and leadership programs help the “whole” girl grow and thrive.
3) UNEMPLOYMENT IS RISING. IT’S EVEN WORSE FOR TEENS.
We provide jobs and career opportunities for 50 teenage girls per year.
4) THE ENVIRONMENT IS ENDANGERED
We provide educational programs and activities that address global warming, food security and other issues the world is facing.
5) THE U.S. NEEDS MORE WOMEN SCIENTISTS
Our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) courses foster a love of science in girls ages 8-18
6) SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL
Our economy runs on the work of small business owners. Girls Club programs, like our Sweet Things Bake Shop and La Tiendita fair trade stores, teach entrepreneurial skills.
7) COMMUNITY COUNTS
Girls Club programs build on individual strengths and resiliencies. Girls are supported by a strong network of local staff, mentors, and volunteers.
8) WE ARE NOT ALONE
The Lower Eastside Girls Club works with and supports girls programs around the world. We have sister programs in New Orleans, Chiapas, Nepal and Africa.
